Drastic cuts in subsidies have made it more important than ever to maximise the output from CSP plants. The optimisation of the existing and future plants from scratch is at the top of the agenda for CSP companies this year
It’s now or never for the CSP industry to take advantage of its many USPs and win the battle to be truly competitive, not only with other renewables but with other energy sources. Whilst the Spanish government appears to have halted CSP development, CSP developers are continuing to invest time, money and innovative efforts in getting optimum power out of the plants already on the ground to prove just how viable the technology is.
Furthermore, several top companies are using their experience in Spain to take advantage of booming new markets such as South Africa, Australia or Chile. Abengoa Solar for example was recently awarded two CSP projects (trough and tower) by South Africa´s Department of Energy and are set to take this market by storm. Every developer and EPC knows that in order to succeed, they will have to ensure they’ve learned from experience in Spain to slash their LCOE and boost competitiveness. Challenges abound for CSP in 2012 but it is clear that the industry is poised to become one of the main contenders in the energy mix through effective innovation, cost reduction and optimisation of this technology.
At the 2nd CSP Optimisation Summit, on June 5-6 (Madrid, Spain) experts will reveal vital efficiency strategies to increase the performance of existing and new CSP plants to propel the industry forward.
Luis Crespo (ESTELA and Protermosolar) and Eduardo Zarza (CIEMAT- PSA) will chair the event and will share opinions and knowledge with the following companies of the CSP industry: Abengoa, Torresol O&M, DLR Institute of Solar Research, Abantia, OPEX Energy, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM, Siemens, ENEA and Novatec.
