GERC proposes tarriff for solar thermal power

Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has determined tariff for solar energy from the demonstration projects under the government of India’s (GoI) Ministry of New & Renewal Energy (MNRE) scheme.
The Government of Gujarat has come out with Solar Power Policy – 2009 in order to promote grid connected solar energy generation.
Project developers in Gujarat are eligible to get $.07 per kWh from the distribution licensees and up to $0.24 per kWh for solar photovoltaic projects and $0.17 per kWh for solar thermal projects as incentive from GoI. It means a project developer will get $0.31 per kWh in case of solar photovoltaic and $0.25 per kWh in case of solar thermal, inclusive of the price to be paid by distribution licensee and incentive paid by GoI.
The operative period for the scheme is up to 31st March 2014. According to the Commission, a maximum of 500 MW of Solar Power Generation (SPG) capacity is proposed for installation during the operative period of the Policy. The minimum project capacity of an SPG in case of solar photovoltaic and solar thermal shall be 5 MW each. The energy generated from a Solar Power Project, shall be sold to the Distribution licensees in the state at levelised fixed tariff per KWh for the period of 25 years, under a power purchase agreement.
