Schott Solar signs agreement with Air Products

8 September 2008

Air Products has signed an agreement to supply Schott Solar's new production facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico with liquid nitrogen, oxygen, argon and hydrogen.

Jeff Handelman, general manager, Photovoltaics, Air Products, attributed the development to his company's expertise in the safe and efficient handling and delivery of bulk liquid gases.

It was in January this year when Schott had shared its plans of constructing a new solar energy technology production facility in the Mesa del Sol region of Albuquerque.

Initially, the production site will manufacture receivers for (CSP) and 64 Megawatts of photovoltaic (PV) modules. The facility is expected to begin production in 2009 and immediately create 350 jobs.

The initial investment in New Mexico by Schott Solar will be on the order of $100 million. Long term plans call for 1,500 employees representing a total investment of $500 million.
